What a roofing receipt should include

Every receipt needs your business details, a receipt number, the date paid, who paid, the amount, and how they paid. The receipt maker above handles those. These matter most for roofing work:

• The deposit, shown as paid before. Put the deposit in "Paid before" so the receipt shows the job total, the deposit, this payment, and a $0.00 balance. The customer can see the deposit was credited.
• The invoice number. The final invoice lists the squares, the decking sheets used, and the permit. The receipt points back to it.
• The check number. Big checks are the ones people ask about later. The number is what the bank needs to trace it.
• Your license number. Many states license or register roofers. Put the number on the receipt the same as on your estimate and invoice.
• Your workmanship warranty. Homeowners keep roofing paperwork for years, for insurance claims and when they sell. A warranty line on the receipt tells them who to call.

Roofing receipt questions

What should a roofing receipt include?

Your business name, phone, and license number if your state requires one, a receipt number, the date paid, the customer's name and the property address, the job and invoice number, the amount, and how they paid (with the check number for a check). Show the job total, the deposit paid before, and the balance remaining, add your warranty line, and sign it.

How do I show the deposit on the final roofing receipt?

Pick Paid in full, enter the final payment, the invoice total, and the deposit in Paid before. The receipt shows all three and a balance of $0.00. If you also gave a receipt for the deposit, put its receipt number in the Details box so the two match.

Do homeowners need a receipt for a new roof?

It's worth giving one. Insurance companies, home buyers, and shingle makers may ask when the roof was replaced and whether it was paid for. A dated receipt with the invoice number answers both. Tell the customer to keep it with the invoice and the warranty papers.

What if insurance is paying part of the roof?

Make a receipt for each payment you receive, for the amount on that check. Pick Partial payment until the last one comes in, and put who paid (the homeowner, or a check from the insurance company) in the Details box. Insurance rules vary by state and policy, so this is general information, not legal advice.
