This receipt starts with a sample painting payment. The names are blank and the amounts are made up. Change them to the payment you received, or clear the sample and start blank.

Copies the customer, job, invoice number, total, and what's left to pay from the invoice maker in this browser.

Took a deposit? Fills in a deposit receipt from the estimate maker in this browser: the customer, job, estimate total, and deposit.

1. Your business

2. Who paid, and for what

3. The payment

This tool doesn't take payments or store card numbers. For a card payment, type only the last 4 digits.

4. Notes and signature

Example wording, not legal or tax advice. A receipt records a payment. It doesn't replace your contract or change your terms. Ask your accountant how to record deposits and partial payments and how long to keep copies.

5. Your receipt

Preview. This is what prints. Empty fields are left off.

6. Send it

Save the receipt as a PDF, then send it with one of these. The messages change with the payment type. Your customer's first name, the job, the amounts, your business, and your name are filled in from the receipt. Anything still in [brackets] is yours to finish.

Still waiting on the rest? The free payment reminder maker fills in friendly, firm, and final reminders for the balance. Paid in full? Ask for a review with the free review link and QR code generator. Need the invoice first? Use the free invoice maker. See all eight on the free tools page.

What a painting receipt should include

Every receipt needs your business details, a receipt number, the date paid, who paid, the amount, and how they paid. The receipt maker above handles those. These matter most for painting work:

Painting receipt questions

What should a painting deposit receipt include?

Your business name, phone, and license number if your state requires one, a receipt number, the date paid, the customer and job address, the job and the estimate number, the deposit amount, and how it was paid (only the last 4 digits for a card). Show the job total and the balance remaining, say the deposit is credited on the final invoice, and sign it.

How much deposit should a painter ask for?

Many painters ask for enough to cover paint and hold the date, often somewhere between 10% and 50%. Some states cap deposits on home improvement work. California, for example, limits most to 10% or $1,000, whichever is less. Check your state's rules before you pick a number. The sample uses 25%. General information, not legal advice.

How do I show the deposit on the final painting invoice?

Open the painting invoice template, type the deposit in "Deposit or payments already received," and the invoice shows the balance due. When the balance is paid, make a second receipt here, pick Paid in full, and put the deposit in Paid before so it shows $0.00 remaining.

Can I make a deposit receipt from my painting estimate?

Yes. If you made the estimate with the painting estimate template or the estimate maker in this browser and it has a deposit, click "Deposit from my last estimate." It fills in the customer, job, estimate total, and deposit.
