How to ask customers for Google reviews (with texts to copy)

Step one: get your review link
In your Google Business Profile, go to Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link. Menus change from time to time, so look for "Ask for reviews" or "Get more reviews" if the buttons move. Test the link yourself, then save it in your phone's notes.

Make asking automatic
- Tie it to invoicing. When you send the invoice or the receipt, send the review ask right after. Same moment, every job.
- Use text replacement. Set a shortcut so typing something like "rvw" fills in the ask.
- Check once a week. On Friday, look at the jobs you finished and make sure everyone got an ask.
- Check your software. Many field-service tools can send review requests when a job is marked complete. Swap in your own wording.
Let AI write one for a specific job
AI prompt: review request for a specific jobAI prompt
Write a short text asking a customer for a Google review, using my notes below. Rules: thank them for the specific job, ask for an honest review, include my link, keep it under 300 characters. Don't offer anything in return, don't ask for 5 stars or a good review, don't ask them to mention anything specific, and don't make the ask depend on whether they were happy. Customer first name: [name] Job: [what we did] Me: [your name], [business] Link: [review link]
Tip: Leave out last names, addresses, and payment details. The AI doesn't need them.
AI prompt: check a message against Google's rulesAI prompt
Check this review request or reply against these rules: no incentives of any kind for a review; ask every customer the same way, with no screening for happy customers first; no pressure; don't ask for specific content or a specific star rating; no customer private details in a public reply; no promotions in a reply. List anything that breaks a rule and suggest a fix. Then give me a clean version.
Message: [paste message]Tip: AI tools sometimes add lines like 'enjoy 10% off as a thank-you.' This prompt catches that. Delete anything like it.
