What a electrical receipt should include
Every receipt needs your business details, a receipt number, the date paid, who paid, the amount, and how they paid. The receipt maker above handles those. These matter most for electrical work:
- Deposit, clearly labeled. Title it "Deposit receipt" and say the deposit is credited on the final invoice.
- The estimate number and job total. The deposit only makes sense next to the total it comes off of.
- Balance remaining after the deposit. Show what's left, and in the notes, when it's due (when the work passes inspection, for example).
- What the deposit pays for. Ordering the panel, pulling the permit, holding the date. One line in Details answers the question before it's asked.
- Your license number. Most states license electricians. Put the number on the deposit receipt like the estimate.

Electrical receipt questions
What should an electrical deposit receipt include?
Your business name, phone, and license number, a receipt number, the date paid, the customer and job address, the job and the estimate number, the deposit amount, and how it was paid. Show the job total and the balance remaining, say the deposit is credited on the final invoice, and sign it.
How much deposit should an electrician ask for?
It varies by state and job size, and some states cap deposits on home improvement work. Many electricians ask enough to cover materials and the permit on bigger jobs, and no deposit on small service calls. Check your state's rules and put the deposit in your written estimate. General information, not legal advice.
How do I show the deposit on the final invoice?
On the invoice, type the deposit in "Deposit or payments already received." The invoice subtracts it and shows the balance due. When the balance is paid, make a second receipt here with the deposit in "Paid before" so it shows $0.00 remaining.
Can I make a deposit receipt from my estimate?
Yes. If you made the estimate with the free estimate maker or an electrical estimate template in this browser and it has a deposit, click "Deposit from my last estimate." It fills in the customer, job, estimate total, and deposit.
