Below is a working estimate with a sample handyman job filled in. Type over anything, add your business details once (they're saved in this browser and shared with the invoice maker), and print it. Jump to what a handyman estimate should include or the sample text to send with it.

This estimate starts with a sample handyman job. The names are blank and the prices are made up. Change every number to yours, or clear the sample and start blank.

1. Your business

2. Customer and job

3. Estimate number and dates

4. Line items and totals

Leave Qty blank for a flat price line, like a trip charge. Units are up to you: ea, hr, sq ft, ln ft, visit, lot.

5. Notes and terms

These lines are an example, not legal advice. Rules for estimates, deposits, and home improvement contracts vary by state and city. Some places require certain wording, your license number, or a cancellation notice on the paperwork. Check your local rules and change the terms to fit your business.

6. Your estimate

Preview. This is what prints. Empty fields are left off.

7. Send it

Save the estimate as a PDF, then send it with one of these. Your customer's name, the job, the total, and the valid-until date are filled in from the estimate. Anything still in [brackets] is yours to finish.

Heard nothing back? Use the three-text quote follow-up plan. Not sure your price is right? Check it with the free pricing calculator before you send. For reminders, invoices, and review requests with your details filled in, use the free text generator.

What a handyman estimate should include

Every estimate needs your business details, the customer, an estimate number, the date, the line items, the total, and how long the price holds. The estimate maker above handles those. These are the lines that matter most for handyman work:

Handyman estimate questions

What should a handyman estimate include?

Your business name, phone, and any license or registration number, the customer and job address, an estimate number, the date, and how long the price holds. Then one line per task with hours or a flat price, parts, materials and how you mark them up, any trip charge, who supplies what, the total, and how payment works.

How do handymen price a repair list?

Many charge a flat price for common tasks (hanging a door, swapping a fan) and an hourly rate for open-ended repairs, plus materials and a trip charge or minimum. The free pricing calculator on this site can help you set an hourly rate that covers your costs.

Should a handyman charge a trip charge?

Many do, often $35 to $75, to cover drive time on small jobs. Some waive it when the job is over a set amount. Whatever you choose, put it on the estimate so the customer sees it before saying yes.

Can I add tasks to the estimate once I'm on the job?

Yes, but price them first. For a small add-on, a text with the price and a reply of "yes" may be enough. For bigger changes, use the free change order maker so the new total is in writing.
